MyDirections - a new, innovative and interactive online careers resource for students
MyDirections is a 24/7 digital careers platform. It has been designed to help young people plan their future by exploring multiple career options, stimulating discussions and being inspired by engaging and interactive content. It is underpinned by our over 25 years experience of providing careers information, understanding the needs and requirements of young people and supporting them to make informed choices that are the best for them.
It contains careers and labour market information, activities, events, vacancies, virtual world of work opportunities - all personalised to individual student interests and preferred options.
We have opened up the platform to Year 10 students and made our brand new World of Work (WOW) virtual work experience programme available free of charge to students across Calderdale and Kirklees. The platform will then be unlocked in September for all pupils at participating schools and colleges, and young people across the area who are NEET, and SEND clients up to the age of 25.
Every young person will have their own unique login and will create an individual profile by answering a short questionnaire. The site will then use the latest technology (via a specially designed algorithm) to understand the needs and interests of users and tailor content accordingly. Advisers and teachers will have access to additional features and reports such as accessing data on how students are using the system, identify trends and/or those in need of additional support.
From research we know that young people want a personalised and relevant experience. My Directions delivers this in an informative way. Content will reflect an individual’s year group (choosing options/post16+ choices), or specific interests around job types or sectors.
MyDirections has been designed to complement the work of our in-school careers advisers. Students can either explore opportunities before or during a careers session and discuss their findings with a careers adviser. Combined with our online chat/messenger services we now offer a comprehensive range of information sources that can meet the varied needs of young people.
