C+K working with local employers and businesses

Find out more about how the C+K Employer Engagement team works with employers to provide a real insight into local businesses and opportunities for young people.

The C+K Employer Engagement team works with local employers and businesses throughout the year on a variety of activities including:

  • careers events
  • promoting apprenticeship opportunities and vacancies
  • extending the ‘World of Work’ virtual work experience platform offer
  • securing placements for the Nexus In-School Programme.

There is a strong commitment to building relationships with employers and, as part of this, the team arranges visits to employers and businesses for C+K careers advisers, who then share information and opportunities with young people in schools, colleges and the community.

Here we take a look at employer visits that have taken place so far in 2025.

Willmott Dixon – January 2025

Willmott Dixon are currently overseeing the build of the new police station in Dewsbury. They invited the C+K Employer Engagement team and careers advisers to take a tour of the construction site. Advisers then had the opportunity to ask questions about working in the construction industry and career opportunities within Willmott Dixon.

STADA Thornton & Ross – February 2025

In February Sarah, one of our Employer Engagement Specialists, visited STADA Thornton & Ross at their head office in Slaithwaite, Huddersfield. The company are in the process of growing their workforce as many of their key staff are due to retire in the next few years, and they are looking to recruit new apprentices. They discussed the different types of apprenticeships they are looking to recruit for and talked about their selection processes.

Sarah shared this labour market information with C+K careers advisers working in local schools and colleges, and made them aware of the vacancies due to be advertised. We subsequently advertised multiple STADA Thornton and Ross Level 3-7 apprenticeship vacancies on MyDirections and the C+K social media platforms.

The team are hoping to run a visit to the offices/laboratory for careers advisers later in the year, so they can find out more about working at STADA Thornton and Ross.

Transpennine Route Upgrade – February 2025

C+K advisers, alongside the Employer Engagement Specialists, visited the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) team at their base at Huddersfield Train Station.

TRU gave a short tour of the building and then spoke in depth about some of the projects they are currently working on and how we can collaborate on these.

As a result of this, a member of TRU recently came into our offices to give a talk to young people on the organisation and some of the opportunities available.

We were also able to pass information to schools about the work experience opportunities available for Year 10 students with TRU during Summer 2025.

Lloyds Banking Group – March 2025

In March C+K careers advisers visited Lloyds Banking Group in Halifax. Advisers were given a talk from the head of HR on the company, recruitment processes and what skills they look for in young people applying for their apprenticeship roles. Two of their current apprentices spoke to advisers about their experiences of working and undertaking an apprenticeship at Lloyds.

The visit helped advisers understand more about the roles on offer to young people and how they can advise them on the recruitment/application processes.

We advertised several apprenticeship opportunities with Lloyds Banking Group on the MyDirections website and across the C+K social media platforms.

Score Europe – March 2025

The Employer Engagement team and a group of advisers visited Score Europe in Brighouse where they were given an in-depth presentation about the business, a tour of the workplace and information about their vacancies and recruitment processes.

C+K’s employer visits give our advisers and staff a real insight into local businesses, what they offer and the opportunities available. Careers advisers can then take this information into schools, colleges and the community, and share with students and staff.
