C+K launch new virtual work experience service - WOW!
With many students missing out on the opportunity to experience the world of work, WOW brings the workplace directly to pupils. Students can undertake a number of specially created modules and watch videos by employers who provide a unique insight into their organisations. All content has been produced by C+K and our digital resource library is being continually added to.
The programme has been designed for schools to access at different times to adapt to varying timetable demands. WOW could be delivered in a collapsed day, week or at scheduled times during the school term. All teaching staff have access to the ‘admin area’ of the platform to view and select a range of lesson plans and extension activities for use with pupils. Students should then complete a minimum number of activities to successfully move on to the next stage of the programme.
Throughout the development process, our Business Advisory Group and schools have been helping us to shape the service and ensure that it is relevant to the needs of local companies and organisations. Having a module-based process means that students can be evaluated on their progression and provides a much more purposeful result for both themselves and employers. We believe that WOW will create a more inclusive service for all pupils and will become an essential part of their CV’s and job application forms.
The pandemic has undoubtedly changed work experience for ever. Increased health and safety requirements, increased time pressures, and the significant increase in home working suggests that week-long blocks of work experience will no longer be appropriate. WOW will however ensure that all young people get to experience the 'world of work' and prepare them for their first steps into their chosen workplace.
