National Apprenticeship Week

C&K Careers is a strong advocate of quality apprenticeships and is very proud of the track-record that both Calderdale and Kirklees has in terms of the numbers of employers offering and young people taking up Apprenticeships. Our annual apprenticeship promotional events (Kirklees, on 5 February, Batley on 12 February and Calderdale on 5 March) are hugely popular in both local authority areas. They attract a wide range of employers offering high quality apprenticeship routes and seeking to employ highly motivated young people with a desire to build a rewarding career and who are not afraid to combine working and earning with learning on and off the job.

Our support for apprenticeships extends to our own workforce and the way we seek to bring new talent into the company and to support long-term succession planning. We have 5 apprentices currently working in IT, Finance and Administration studying related qualifications at levels 2, 3 and 4. The company is committed to supporting them to achieve their professional goals and the qualifications needed to get their careers off to a great start. As a small business, the challenge our apprentices bring is to ensure that their ambition can be fulfilled within the business and that means we have to be creative in identifying and supporting opportunities that keep them engaged, motivated and prepared to stay with the company in the long-run.

This approach to long-term development runs throughout the business. Whilst there is not currently an apprenticeship route into the Careers Advice profession - we have created our own training route and have employed 8 new trainee careers advisers over the last year. The apprenticeship style programme has attracted new people into the business from a diverse range of backgrounds and previous employment. All the trainees will gain hands on experience in different teams within the business and will work alongside experienced and qualified colleagues whilst also working towards the industry standard level 6 qualification.

We are committed to practising what we advise to others and investing in local people in Calderdale and Kirklees.

If you're a business and you need advice about apprenticeships or want to advertise your apprenticeship free of charge please get in touch 01484 242000.
