Over 1100 young people and their parents attended the Kirklees Apprenticeship Event organised by C&K Careers in partnership with Kirklees Council. The event held at John Smith’s Stadium on 15 February was opened by Eorl Crabtree who commented on the great work the company does to advise on career, learning and work options.
Those attending had the chance to speak to over 45 local and national employers and training providers on the night including Aldi, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Lloyds Banking Group, Kirklees College, Hello Mint, Syngenta, Royal Air Force, Yorkshire Water and Paxman Landscapes.
The event gave young people the opportunity to find out more about apprenticeships and what options are available to them in the local area. Attendees could also chat to current apprentices, get advice from C&K Careers Advisers and attend several employer led information sessions. Parents who attended were also able to speak to National Careers Service Advisers about opportunities open to adults.
Over the past five years the annual event has become a firm favourite for companies and training providers wanting to recruit high calibre apprentices. Several employers commented on the footfall, the great organisation and the enthusiasm of the young people attending.
“From our point of view it was very successful and we have a number of promising candidates as a result.” Reliance Precision
“Great organisation, and set in a fantastic facility. The footfall was amazing and I don’t think we stopped talking all night! Most of the evening we had a queue of youngsters waiting to talk to us and many of them very engaging, enthusiastic and interested in what we had to offer”. Alton Cars
Feedback from young people after the event was also positive
“Event has opened options up, am thinking of applying for apprenticeships”

Michelle Morson, Employment and Training Adviser, said “It is really satisfying that the Kirklees 2017 Apprenticeship Event was such a success and that over 1100 visitors used the opportunity to talk to the employers, gathering information on their apprenticeship schemes and opportunities. We would also like to thank all of our exhibitors, who by dedicating their time contributed to the success of the event”.
